R&B Division

Project Brief R&B Division

Location
Mehsana, Gujarat

Building is just the last piece of the puzzle called planning. Every built form has a larger architectural, social and economic context (and impact) than what it appears to a human mind. Thus, to design in response to all the factors which are site specific as well as those that apply to a larger area becomes significant.

The entire site of R&B division, Mehsana is cut into two by a road that connects the two existing roads creating a fan-shaped frontage. A rectangular parcel at the rear to be accommodating the housing and the front part is the main part of the campus designed as the R&B administrative & training campus.

Architecture is a process of back and forth interpretation that leads to evolution of a form. Derived through a metamorphosis of design and language, the prototype built-form is a blend of functional clarity and form aesthetics.

The process reveals various attempts to achieve a desired balance between volumes and voids for structural, environmental and economic viability. Along with satisfying the needs of the brief, it is inclusive in scale and nature.

Planned with a central core with the three functional zones of training, administration and research wings attached to it, the design establishes functional equilibrium. The three wings take up the form of semi-circular blocks connected with the chamfered central cylinder making the form respond equally inwards and outwards.

Strategic locations of the three blocks in relation to each other also indicate a pattern of future expansion. It flexible allows functions to grow horizontality not losing on language and aesthetics with increment of spaces.

The spatial organization metaphorically exhibits a harmony between the in-house functions and the connectivity with city (citizens). The three wings planned in balance speak for the kind of development that is uniform and effective.
